Dear TGA Member,
Our industry is among the hardest hit by the lapse of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), and we need your voice in Washington.
Join the Travel Goods Association and our partners at the Coalition for GSP for GSP Lobby Days in Washington, D.C. on July 22–23, 2025. This is your opportunity to meet directly with lawmakers and advocate for the renewal and reform of GSP—a program that once offered vital tariff relief to our industry but has now lapsed, placing a heavy burden on companies like yours.
Why This Matters:
According to the Coalition for GSP and U.S. trade data:
-
Over 50% of all GSP-eligible tariffs collected since the program expired in 2020 are from travel goods—bags, luggage, backpacks, handbags, and more.
-
These products were added to the GSP program in 2017, but when it lapsed at the end of 2020, they were hit with import duties as high as 17.6%.
-
Since then, American companies have paid over $3 billion in non-refundable tariffs, resulting in lost competitiveness, increased prices, and pressure on supply chains.
This is why your participation matters. Travel goods companies represent the majority of the impacted category—and we must ensure Congress hears from us directly.
